«Capisco…» disse pensieroso il vampiro, poi attraversò lentamente la stanza fino alla finestra. Qui restò a lungo, in piedi, contro la luce fioca di Divisadero Street e i bagliori intermittenti del traffico. Adesso il ragazzo riusciva a distinguere più chiaramente l’arredamento della stanza, il tavolo rotondo di quercia, le sedie. E su una parete, un lavandino e uno specchio. Posò la cartella sul tavolo e aspettò.
«Quanto nastro hai con te?» chiese il vampiro voltandosi, così che il ragazzo ora ne poteva scorgere il profilo. «Ce n’è abbastanza per la storia di una vita?»
